Three Dakar etiquette markers: embroidered white or ivory bazin is reserved for close family at a wedding; avoid arriving in the same colour as the asobi (the guests' uniform) unless invited to; very bright tones are discouraged for mourning, even in wax.
The real cost of an outfit: fabric, making, finishing
Fabric rarely exceeds half the budget. The rest is making and finishing, which is where quality is decided.
