The step-by-step routine
- Every week (5 minutes): empty the bag, turn the lining out and shake it, brush the outside with horsehair, focusing on seams and base, wipe hardware with a dry cloth.
- Every 6 to 8 weeks (20 minutes): clean with glycerine soap on a barely damp cloth, let dry 2 hours in the shade, apply a hazelnut-sized amount of balm in circular motions, let it absorb 30 minutes, buff.
- Before the rains (June): full clean, waterproofing, fresh silica sachets, check stitching threads.
- After the rains (November): inspect corners, base and strap in daylight; if you see white spots or smell mustiness, wipe with a cloth dipped in 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water, dry, condition.
- Storage: never in the shop's plastic bag. A cotton dustbag, tissue paper or a clean cloth as stuffing to keep the shape, flat or upright, never hung by the handles.
